When I look back on my career, I don’t even recognize myself from 5 years ago.

I knew I was unhappy but I kept compounding in that direction because I didn’t know where my skills would be more valued and couldn’t see a clear pathway to get there (classic generalist move).

Until one Friday night after a particularly frustrating conversation, I decided to be done.

Done abandoning myself.

Done performing for the next milestone instead of asking whether I still wanted it.

Done saying YES to a career that was once exciting but I’d long since outgrown.

I drew a line in the sand.

A line that said, “There’s no going back to settling for less than I deserve.”

I decided that building a career that lit me up was more important than continuing to get promoted in a career that was draining me every day. Crazy how that's not more normalized.

After a few months, I made another important decision.

I decided not to make this transition alone…
